Review: Thursbitch

Thursbitch Thursbitch by Alan Garner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A densely packed beautifully written novella. The language, modern, idiomatic and archaic gives little away easily but gains power from that. It demands attention and rewards it.

Like the characters in it, the book is dominated by its sense of place, which it evokes to a rare degree. Equally, the two time periods are expertly conjured, as are the characters. There really is little to find fault with in this dark gem.
